Christian Tretbar studied journalism and political science at Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz from 2000 to 2006, spending one semester at Université XI in Paris during this time. After his first school newspaper projects, he worked as a freelance journalist for the local newspaper Wetterauer Zeitung and as a reporter for the sports desk of the Frankfurter Rundschau. From 2002 to 2006, Christian Tretbar worked as press spokesman for Member of Parliament Nina Hauer in her constituency. In 2004, he began working for the Tagesspiegel in Berlin, first as a freelance sports reporter and then as a trainee in 2006. After holding various positions within the publishing house, Christian Tretbar was appointed editor-in-chief of the Tagesspiegel on March 1, 2021. From March 2021, he was editor-in-chief of Tagesspiegel alongside Lorenz Maroldt, and since January 2025, he has been the only editor-in-chief of the leading media outlet in the capital.
